Gabrielle (played by Renee O'Conner) first meets Xena when Xena saved Gabrielles village, Potadeia, from Draco. She then asks Xena if she can join her, Xena refuses. Later, Gabrielle follows Xena. Then later, joins forces with Xena.

Over time, Gabrielle learns to fight with her staff next to Xena. Gabrielle learns more warrior skills during a stay with the Amazons. The Amazon Terreis passes her Right of cast to Gabrielle, who is now the Amazon Princess. Though the other Amazons have accepted her and one in particular, Ephiny, has become a close friend, Gabrielle leaves the Amazons behind to be with Xena. Gabrielle asks Ephiny to act as Queen in her absence.

Gabrielle gives birth to Dahaks child, Hope, and sets her afloat in a basket and pretends to drop her into an abyss with Xena watching. Later, while Xena and Gabrielle are visiting with Xena's son, Solan, Gabrielle meets her 10-year-old daughter and then Gabrielle realizes that Hope is evil, poisons her. Much later, Xena and Gabrielle find that Callisto is trying to have Hope reborn. After Hope's rebirth, Gabrielle grabs Hope and both fall into an abyss. Shortly after, Xena goes to Gabrielles village and realizes that Hope is acting like Gabrielle and Hope has givin birth to a child, Dahak's grandson, the monstrous Destroyer. Gabrielle then acts like Hope as Xena uses her sword on the Destroyer. Then thinking his mother had betrayed him, the Destroyer grabs Hope and plunges his deadly quills deep into her body. The Destroyer and Hope fall to the floor dead.
